Germany has decided to pave the way for the purchase, possession and cultivation of cannabis for arbitrary use. “The federal cabinet today agreed on the key points to allow controlled distribution of arbitrary cannabis for adults,” Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said on Wednesday. “The supply and possession of cannabis will be permitted within a licensed and government-controlled framework,” Lauterbach explained.

Individuals over the age of 18 will be able to carry between 20 and 30 grams of dried cannabis, according to the proposal AFP has seen. It is stated that cannabis will be sold in authorized shops and pharmacies. According to the proposal, while cannabis can be grown in Germany by licensed businesses; adults will also be able to keep three plants.

According to the document they saw, marijuana advertisements would not be allowed and packages would have to be “neutral,” AFP said. Lauterbach did not provide a timetable for the legalization of cannabis use, but said the law could begin to be discussed in 2024.
